Erlanger hospital in ChattanoogaNASHVILLE - The state House this morning overwhelmingly passed an overhaul of Erlanger Health Systems' board of trustees.
The private act passed on a 95-0 vote.
"It is very time sensitive in our community," House Majority Leader Gerald McCormick, R-Chattanooga, told the chamber.
Local lawmakers are changing the board and its accountability functions, saying the move is needed because of problems and challenges faced by the public hospital. Among other things, it whittles the board from 12 to 9 members and changes how trustees are appointed.
As McCormick came to the House well to present the bill, he was accompanied by all four other Hamilton County House members - Rep. Mike Carter, R-Ooltewah; Rep. Vince Dean, R-East Ridge; Rep. JoAnne Favors, D-Chattanooga; and Rep. Richard Floyd, R-Chattanooga.
Sen. Todd Gardenhire, R-Chattanooga, is handling the Senate version.
