Alabama football coach Nick Saban on Thursday announced the hiring of Kevin Steele as director of player personnel and Kerry Stevenson as director of player development.

Steele, whose primary objective will be to direct recruiting efforts, was the defensive coordinator for Saban's first Crimson Tide team in 2007. He has been an assistant with Tennessee, Nebraska, Florida State, Clemson and the NFL's Carolina Panthers, and he was Baylor's head coach from 1999 to 2002.

"I've worked at some great schools through the years," Steele said, "and nobody does it better than Coach Saban when it comes to running a program top to bottom."

Stevenson's main focus will be off-the-field activities of the student-athletes. He comes to Alabama after spending the past 10 years as the head coach of Vigor High in Prichard, Ala. Two Tide redshirt sophomores, tailback Jalston Fowler and receiver Marvin Shinn, played for Stevenson at Vigor.
