Scoring errors change the game for Gordon Lee High School wrestlers

MACON, Ga. - Scoring errors and the Gordon Lee High School wrestling team are no strangers, so coach Brent Raby wasn't entirely surprised late Friday night when his cell phone began buzzing nonstop.

GHSA officials recorded the final two Trojans' matches incorrectly Friday night, listing Corey Jewell and Dallas Goodlet as losing in the semifinals when they had won. The official updated standings originally had Gordon Lee with a 10-point lead. Upon correction that lead over Holy Innocents was 34.5 heading into this morning's consolation semifinals.

"I knew something was wrong when my cell phone started blowing up," Raby said. "I guess this error isn't as bad as the last one. It's too bad for Corey and Dallas, though, because people that didn't get to see it thought they lost."

A scoring error in the state duals last season against the Trojans led to a lengthy appeal that went all the way to the GHSA Executive Committee, who ruled in Gordon Lee's favor and eventually led to the team being named co-champion along with Holy Innocents.
