The Chattanooga police and fire departments responded to a fire engulfing an Oneal Street mobile home Sunday night.
The blaze broke out around 8 p.m. in one of three abandoned trailers on a lot in the 500 block, police officers on the scene said. Officers believe the middle trailer went up first and the flames spread to those on either side. The middle trailer is believed to be a total loss.
Officers searched the site and discovered no one inside any of the trailers.
As a black column of smoke and sparks hung over the street, about half a dozen fire trucks blocked off the street and firefighters fought to contain the blaze.
“I saw the lights out there and thought, ‘That’s a lot of police.’ I walked outside and saw the fire,” said one neighbor, who declined to give her name.
“It’s kind of scary,” she said.
The fire department will investigate the cause of the blaze, according to a police officer on the scene.
