The Tennessee Temple men's basketball team stretched an impressive win streak to seven games with victories Friday and Saturday, but that's nothing compared to Tennessee Wesleyan's streak.
Coach Mike Poe's Bulldogs ended the regular season with their 15th win in a row Saturday, 110-106 at Reinhardt. The Bulldogs long had clinched the AAC regular-season title and wound up 15-1 in the league, 22-7 overall, as Desmond Crisp had 29 points and Zamarius McClendon and Tyler Burse added 26 and 21 points and 10 and eight rebounds.
Senior point guard E'Jay Ward from Brainerd, the reigning AAC player of the week, contributed seven assists and six steals with eight points. He had 14 points, 7.5 assists, 3.5 steals and five rebounds in two league games leading to his award.
The second-place TWC women won 71-53 at Reinhardt with 17 points and eight rebounds from Cody Houck, and Morgan Burnette had 16 points and 11 rebounds and Keila Formont had eight assits in Bryan's 66-60 AAC loss at Union College. Derrick Walker had 16i points and nine rebounds as the third-place Bryan men lost 78-58.
For Temple (16-11), Rashaud Bell had 23 points and 11 rebounds and Elliot Johnson had 17 points, 10 rebounds and five steals in a 72-64 win Saturday at Bob Jones. Johnson had 14 rebounds with PJ Whittaker's 18 points and Bell's 15 in Friday's home defeat of Victory.
The Lady Crusaders won 56-53 at Bob Jones.
Covenant's Lady Scots (12-10) won 79-65 at Toccoa Falls with Jessica Chittenden scoring 15 points and Haley Soles and Liz Dougherty added 12 apiece, and the Scots (13-10) won 56-52 at home against Huntingdon with 16 points and nine rebounds from Sam Bowman and 13 points from Colton McGriff. Covenant's Jon DeVries tied the score at 52 with 56 seconds left, and McGriff and Bowman each hits two free throws in the last 15 seconds.
Nationally seventh-ranked Walters State beat visiting Chattanooga State 74-37 in TCCAA women's play, and the Walters men followed with a 110-76 romp featuring six players with 11 to 15 points. Chattanooga State's Nick Ross led everyone with 24 points.
Khamiyah Crawford's 10 points and Tyresha King's and Sierra Sales' 11 and nine rebounds led the Lady Tigers in defeat. Donessha Shuler had 17 points for the Lady Senators.
The Georgia Northwestern Lady Bobcats pulled out a 68-66 win over Middle Georgia Tech at the Rossville Athletic Complex and left the Lady Cats (13-10, 5-1) titled with West Georgia Tech for first place in NJCAA Region XVII. Mariah Price's two free throws with 12 seconds left provided the winning margin and gave her 15 points to go with Emily Cole's 16 in the win, while Odessa Person had 15 rebounds with 12 points and Kiarra Parks scored 10.
Alex Miller scored 13 and Bud Todd blocked four shots in the Bobcats' 64-45 loss to the Titans.
