U.S. Rep. Chuck Fleischmann, R-Tenn., met today with representatives of Hamilton County and its 10 municipalities for a roundtable discussion about what local governments need from the Republican congressman’s office.
Hamilton County Mayor Jim Coppinger said the meeting was productive, and he was pleased to hear Fleischmann was dedicated to opposing what Coppinger called unfunded mandates from the federal government.
“I was pleased to hear the commitments he made to us as far as fighting these unfunded mandates (in Washington). Those usually come down to local governments to pay for,” Coppinger said.
Coppinger also said he was glad to hear Fleischmann is working to keep public safety and police grants available for local governments.
