New Chick-fil-A to bring 70 jobs

Chick-fil-A's new Brainerd Road restaurant will bring more than 70 jobs to the Chattanooga area when it opens Thursday, according to the company.

The first 100 adults, 18 and older with identification, in line when the doors open at 6 a.m. will win a one-year supply of free weekly Chick-fil-A meals. That consists of 52 coupons for a sandwich and medium waffle fry and drink.

Chick-fil-A opened its first Chattanooga location in Northgate Mall in 1982.

Dell income falls in 4th quarter

Dell Inc.'s net income fell 31 percent in the latest quarter as the company continued to be hurt by a shrinking PC market.

Dell's founder and CEO Michael Dell and a group of investors are buying the company for $24.4 billion with a plan to turn it around. Dell posted net income of $530 million, or 30 cents per share, for its fiscal fourth quarter, which ended Feb. 1. That was down from $764 million, or 43 cents per share, in the quarter a year ago. Revenue was $14.3 billion, down 11 percent from a year ago.

Smucker invests in Memphis plant

The J.M. Smucker Co. announced Tuesday it will convert its existing Memphis production facility to a peanut butter manufacturing plant, resulting in the investment of $55.6 million by the company. Smucker expects to employ 125 workers in Memphis upon completion of the project in 2014. Smucker previously announced it would cease all operations of its existing fruit spreads manufacturing facility.

"By investing in Memphis, we can leverage our existing facilities, infrastructure and highly skilled workforce to operate a state-of-the-art peanut butter facility in support of our peanut butter brands," Smucker Vice President Maribeth Badertscher said.

Ford to build engines in Ohio

Ford Motor Co. is moving production of a popular small engine from Spain to Cleveland, Ohio, as sales of four-cylinder motors rise.

Later this week, Ford will announce a $200 million investment at its factory in Brook Park, Ohio, so it can make the four-cylinder, 2-Liter "EcoBoost" engine, according to a person briefed on the matter.
