Events, party celebrate birthday of Dr. Seuss

United Way of Greater Chattanooga will celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday with Read Across Chattanooga, part of the National Education Association's Read Across America Week.

From 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, through Friday, March 1, local celebrities will read their favorite Dr. Seuss books at Center Stage at Hamilton Place, 2100 Hamilton Place Blvd. Other activities include visits by the Cat in the Hat and free book enrollments.

The week will culminate with a birthday party to honor Dr. Seuss from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 2. The day includes snacks, arts and crafts and a free book to the first 500 kids.

From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., children can get a learning checkup in the play area at the mall. Families who get the checkup receive a free family pass to Creative Discovery Museum.
