KNOXVILLE - The Knoxville Fire Department had to be called in after 25 people crammed into an elevator and it got stuck.

The Knoxville News Sentinel reports the group was headed to a top floor of Plaza Tower for a fraternity party late Friday night.

The 5-foot-by-5-foot elevator became stuck somewhere between the lobby and the 18th floor of the 27-story building.

Fire Capt. D.J. Corcoran said in his report that the group was uncooperative with firefighters, delaying their rescue for more than an hour.

Meanwhile, the police had to be called in to control a second rowdy crowd that formed in the lobby.

The firefighters eventually were able to override the button-pushing panic of the people in the elevator and rescue them.

No injuries were reported.
