The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga hammered Virginia Military Institute and Southern Illinois-Edwardsville in Southern Conference wrestling matches Saturday at Maclellan Gymnasium, 36-3 and 40-3, and clinched at least a tie for the regular-season championship. The Mocs will host second-place Campbell at 7 p.m. Monday for a chance to earn the title outright. UTC 165-pounder Josh Condon pinned both of his opponents Saturday, while Niko Brown at 197 had a pin and a major decision, Nick Soto (125) had a technical fall and a forfeit win, Robert Prigmore (184) had a pin and a decision and Alex Hudson (149) won by major decision and technical fall. Dean Pavlou (141), Trey Stavrum (157) and John Lampe (174) also won twice.

Golf

• The UTC men's golf team is tied for sixth place going into the final round today of the 15-team Bayou City Collegiage Championship tournament at Redstone Golf Club in Humble, Texas. The Mocs shot 290 for the second day in a row Saturday but slipped from a tie for fourth. Third-ranked Texas strengthened its lead with a 274 for a 559, 13 strokes better than second-place Baylor. Fourth-place Houston had the second-best team score of the day, 282. UTC's Liam Johnston followed his first-round 69 with a 71 and is tied for fifth individually at 140, while teammates Steven Fox and Davis Bunn share 27th place with 145s and Chris Robb is at 151.

Basketball

• Washington and Lee senior forward Katy Wilson from Chattanooga and Baylor School was the Women's Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year for the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. A second-team All-ODAC player who averaged 11.3 points and eight rebounds a game, the chemical engineering major had team highs of 22 points and 12 rebounds as the eighth-seeded Generals lost 68-58 to top seed Eastern Mennonite in the league tournament Thursday. In that game Wilson became the 10th player in program history to reach 1,000 career points; she finished with 1,013, along with 815 rebounds.

• Carson-Newman junior Ish Sanders from Cleveland High School scored 33 points with 9-of-18 3-point success in the Eagles' 92-55 South Atlantic Conference basketball home win Saturday over Anderson. Cody Henegar from Marion County had seven points and three steals for the Eagles (19-5, 12-4).

Baseball

• Cleveland State split its nonconference home baseball doubleheader against nationally 12th-ranked TCCAA rival Walters State with a 4-0 win behind Thomas Huddleston's pitching in Saturday's second game. The visiting Senators won 8-3 for Taylor Patterson with a five-run fifth inning in the first game. The Cougars (8-4) scored in the first inning of game two when DeAndre Allen doubled and came home on a groundout, and they made it 3-0 in the third with singles by Allen, Chase Edwards and Michael Hargrove. Keith Buckhault doubled and scored on a Dalton Rogers single in the sixth. Andre Wilson got the last three outs after Huddleston scattered seven hits through six innings.

• Lee University, ranked third in the NAIA, beat visiting Auburn-Montgomery 4-1 and 9-2 Saturday to complete a Southern States baseball weekend sweep. Jose Samayoa allowed four hits in six innings and Andy Hillis got the save in game one, when Danny Canela was 2-for-3 with an RBI, Corey Davis tripled and drove in a run and Derrick Pitts was 1-for-2 with an RBI for the Flames (15-2, 6-0). Brandon Rader was 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run and Brady Renner and Karsten Strieby each had two hits and two RBIs in the second game, when Renner scored three runs and Strieby two in support of pitchers Clint Terry and Jeremy Stawychny.

• Jarrod Jameson and three relievers combined to pitch a four-hitter as top-ranked Tennessee Wesleyan beat visiting Indiana Southeast 12-2 in NAIA baseball Friday. Jameson gave up the hits and the runs, one earned, and struck out six in his six inings. Wes Minton drove in three runs and Jake Stone, David Donald, Brackton Smith and Hunter Hall batted in two apiece for the Bulldogs, and Stone, Donald, Smith, Hall and Drew Levi each homered. Travis Burnside was 2-for-4 and scored twice.

• Bryan College bounced back from a 6-2 baseball loss to visiting Taylor in Friday's second game to win 9-1 and 7-3 Saturday for a 3-1 series ledger. Tristan Speak pitched a four-hitter in the first game and Hunter Tipton and two relievers handled the finale, when Kevin Layne was 2-for-5 with a homer and five RBIs. He was 1-for-2 with two RBIs and two runs in Saturday's opener, while Cody Rhinehart and Jess Cartner each had two hits, an RBI and a run.

• Sterling Witt was 3-for-3 with a go-ahead three-run double and Patrick Sanderson had two hits and caught the final out at the wall as Covenant College won 6-5 to complete a baseball doubleheader sweep Saturday at Milligan. The Scots (6-1) won the first game 9-4 by jumping ahead 5-0 and responding when the Buffaloes closed within 5-4. Garret Kriston got the pitching win in the opener with sterling relief, and K.C. Simons, Will Cleland, David Lockwood, Witt and Perry Rigby each had two hits. Scott Gillespie had two hits and two runs in game two.

Football

• Local radio talk-show host and three-time NFL All-Pro running back Gerald Riggs will be the guest speaker for the Chattanooga Quarterback Club's noon luncheon meeting Monday at Finley Stadium, and the public is invited. Attendance costs $10 with a meal, $4 without. Riggs starred for the Atlanta Falcons and the Washington Redskins and ran for 8,188 yards and caught 201 passes for 1,516 yards in his 10 NFL seasons, with 1,719 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns for the Falcons in 1985 and two TDs in Washington's victory in Super Bowl XXVI.
