Hiwassee College cuts tuition $6,000 per year

MADISONVILLE, Tenn. - A small private college in East Tennessee is reducing tuition by 20 percent.

The board of Hiwassee College in Madisonville voted to reduce the student tuition cost by $6,000 per year. The reduction will save $24,000 on a four-year undergraduate degree.

Trustees Chairman Karl Jordan said the move will help middle class families who have too much income to qualify for financial benefits, but not enough to afford private college for their children.

Beginning with the fall semester of 2013, a residential student will be able to attend Hiwassee for under $20,000 per year, including tuition, fees, room and board.

Hiwassee College is a liberal arts school, affiliated with the United Methodist Church.
