The University of Alabama on Wednesday announced the dismissal of four football players who were arrested earlier this month after two students were robbed on campus.

Running back Brent Calloway, defensive end D.J. Pettway, linebacker Tyler Hayes and safety Eddie Williams are no longer in the program and no longer in school. Pettway and Hayes have been charged with two counts of second-degree robbery, while Williams has been charged with two counts of second-degree robbery and fraudulent use of a credit card.

Calloway has been charged with fraudulent use of a credit card.

"Based on all the information we've received and gone through in trying to determine the future of the four guys that got in trouble, those guys are no longer associated with the football program," Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban said. "Their actions do not reflect the spirit and character that we want our organization to reflect. It's obviously very disappointing and unacceptable what happened."

The most prominent player of the four during the 2012 season was Pettway, who earned Freshman All-SEC honors after amassing eight tackles, four tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks. The redshirt freshman had an 11-yard sack in the 42-14 drubbing of Notre Dame in the BCS championship game.

Hayes had 14 tackles last season as a true freshman, while Calloway's redshirt freshman season consisted of 63 rushing yards, with 52 of those in the blowout of Western Carolina. Williams, Rivals.com's No. 1 athlete prospect nationally in the 2012 signing class, redshirted last season as Alabama won its third national title in four years.

"We are going to continue to do as much as we can in personal development and character development in our program with education to try to help our guys have a chance to be more successful in life," Saban said. "Some people learn by words. Some people learn by consequences. Some people can't learn."

Saban also announced that redshirt sophomore receiver Marvin Shinn is expecting to transfer after dropping out of offseason workouts and that fellow redshirt sophomore wideout Danny Woodson Jr. has been suspended for a violation of team rules. Shinn had six catches for 42 yards last season, including two for 14 in the BCS title game, while Woodson had one catch for 9 yards.

Senior receiver Kevin Norwood (toe) and senior cornerback John Fulton (turf toe) will be limited when spring practice starts March 16.
