Penn State has early lead in Scuffle

Seeking to defend its 2012 Southern Scuffle championship, defending NCAA champion Penn State slipped into the Scuffle wrestling lead at McKenzie Arena, scoring 48.5 points to snare a one-point lead over Oklahoma State through today's championship round of 16.

The Nittany Lions are without two of their nationally ranked wrestlers, both carrying No. 5 seeds. The two, 149-pound Andrew Alton and 157-pound Dylan Alton, weighed in this morning, but each did so knowing he had been suspended from the team for violation of team rules.

The host University of Tennessee at Chattanooga has two wrestlers in tonight's quarterfinals: 141-pound Dean Pavlou and 197-pound Niko Brown.

Missouri goes into the quarterfinals in third place, followed by Minnesota, Cornell, Virginia, Air Force, Army, Arizona State and Navy. UTC is 11th with 22.5 points, 1.5 out of a 10th-place tie.
