Georgia redshirt junior quarterback Aaron Murray posted Sunday night on Twitter that he is coming back for his final year of eligibility.
The 6-foot-1, 210-pounder from Tampa led the Bulldogs to a 12-2 season, which was capped by last Tuesday’s 45-31 win over Nebraska at the Capital One Bowl in Orlando. He completed 249 of 386 passes (64.5 percent) for 3,893 yards with a school single-season record 36 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.
Murray posted, “Blessed to be the QB for the Dawgs, not ready to leave just yet. Time to get back to work & help lead this team to a championship.”
Last Wednesday, Murray told ESPN that he had received a second- or third-round evaluation from the NFL’s Draft Advisory Board.
The only quarterback in SEC history to throw for more than 3,000 yards in three consecutive seasons, Murray has the opportunity to set league standards in passing yards and passing touchdowns. His 10,091 yards are 1,437 shy of David Greene’s 12,528 compiled at Georgia from 2001 to ’04, and his 95 touchdowns are 19 shy of the 114 Florida quarterback Danny Wuerffel amassed from 1993 to ’96.
Georgia is still awaiting word on junior nose guard Kwame Geathers, who has until Jan. 15 to declare.
