Chattanooga Zoo grieves loss of chimpanzee

The Chattanooga Zoo said today that staff had to euthanize "Josie" the chimpanzee on December 30 after weeks of rapid health deterioration.

An examination by the zoo veterinary staff determined that Josie's increasingly impaired mobility and rapid weight loss would not get better and continue to worsen.

Josie came to live at the Chattanooga Zoo from the Fort Worth Zoo in 2001. She was 37.
