A 45-year-old man faces two counts of extortion and one count of making a false report after he phoned a family member saying he had been kidnapped and needed money to pay his captors, according to Chattanooga police.

A family member of Michael Wiley phoned police to report the kidnapping on Sunday. They told authorities he was last seen Friday. Wiley called to say his captors would hurt him if his ransom went unpaid.

Detectives tracked Wiley to a room at the Budget Hotel, 3400 Cummings Highway. He was found alone.
