Gunshots 'common' at site of Bradley County shooting

Gunshots and loud arguments are common at the Bradley County, Tenn., address where a man was shot in the stomach, allegedly by his girlfriend's brother, Monday night, neighbors said.

"We've expected something like this to happen sooner or later," said a neighbor, who asked not to be identified because the shooter was still at large. "The law comes over there all the time. They're not quiet. They're always over there going on with each other."

Bradley County Sheriff's Office spokesman Bob Gault said Gilbert Blair, 48, was arguing with his girlfriend at his home at 181 Burris Lane when her brother, Jerry Kincaid, 43, pulled a small pistol and shot Blair in the stomach.

The incident happened about 8:15 p.m. Blair was taken to Erlanger hospital and is in critical condition.

Kincaid, who lives on the same road as Blair, surrendered to detectives Tuesday afternoon and has been charged with aggravated assault, Gault said. He will be held without bond until his arraignment today.

Gault said he wasn't sure what Blair and his girlfriend were arguing about. Blair's neighbor said she heard several gunshots earlier Monday afternoon, but that wasn't unusual.

"Like I said, we're used to it," she said. "Of course it worries us when we hear the gunshots. But he's never done any harm to us or threatened us or anything."

A woman who picked up the phone at Blair's home declined to comment.
