Dayton police investigate shooting

Dayton, Tenn., police officers responded to reports of a double shooting at 723 Richland St. early Friday night, according to Rhea County dispatchers.

The call came in at 5:22 p.m. Dispatchers said it appeared two people had been shot. Dayton Police Chief Chris Sneed told reporters at the scene that two people were taken to the hospital with injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening.

A neighbor, who asked not to be identified, said he heard several fast shots Friday night.

"It was pop pop pop," he said over the phone.

He added that the small street was full of police cars.

"I've never seen that many police cars up here," he said. "It's like the wild wild West. We don't get stuff like this out here in Dayton."
