Former University of Tennessee at Chattanooga All-Southern Conference left tackle Chris Harr, who worked as a student assistant coach in 2012, has been hired to coach the Mocs' tight ends.

Head coach Russ Huesman hired Harr on Friday, filling a spot on UTC's offensive staff created by running backs coach Thomas Brown's departure this week for Georgia State.

Harr said he thought he had a chance to join the staff, "but I wasn't sure if it was going to be on the defensive side of the ball or what. When Thomas left, a position opened up, and I'm really excited about this opportunity."

While finishing his undergraduate work, Harr helped offensive line coach Alex Atkins last fall. Huesman said Harr's primary responsibility will be tight ends, but he may also assist with tackles. Harr played tight end as a freshman before starting for three seasons at left tackle.

Wesley Satterfield was UTC's tight ends coach last season. He will move to running backs, Huesman said.

"Until Thomas left, it never crossed my mind to do this," Huesman said. "Wes is a bright young guy and I think he'll do a great job. And Chris will bring a lot to the table."

Harr, a Chattanooga native whose mother, Tina, died in October after a long battle with cancer, said it means a lot for him to be able to stay in town.

"I'm very fortunate to be able stay here close to my dad," said Harr, who is married to former UTC All-SoCon softball player Brittany Eason. "I didn't really want to go anywhere."

Huesman still has a defensive staff position to fill.

DE commits to Mocs

Defensive end Matt Foster of Cook (Ga.) High School has committed to UTC. Foster is one of three defensive players out of the 11 Mocs commitments.

The 6-foot-4, 220-pound Foster was named to the Georgia all-state second team. As a senior, he had 63 tackles, seven sacks and eight tackles for loss.

Foster committed to UTC on Dec. 21, he said, picking the Mocs over Jacksonville State and South Alabama. Choosing UTC came down to one very simple thing: "I liked it better than the other schools," Foster said.
