Hutcheson Medical Center executives said the Fort Oglethorpe hospital earned an overall system profit in December.

"We are happy to report that Hutcheson has been able to sustain first quarter earnings," Roger Forgey, Hutcheson's president and CEO, said in a news release. "Hutcheson is on budget year to date, which puts the hospital on track for its first profitable year in quite a while."

During a budget meeting Monday, hospital executives said Hutcheson posted a profit of $149,146, which represents a $428,116 improvement over the December budget and a $1.04 million improvement versus December 2011, the news release stated.

Budget figures show the patients census was up 42 percent, surgeries increased 21 percent and patient visits to the Fuller Cancer Center were up about 18 percent.
