ATHENS, Tenn. — McMinn County senior guard Haley Ward was honored Tuesday for going over the 1,000-point mark in her career.
Ward, who will run cross country for the University of Mississippi in college, eclipsed the mark on Jan. 22 when the Lady Cherokees defeated Cleveland 43-35.
“She’s been the cornerstone of the rebuilding process here,” McMinn coach Tim McPhail said. “She started out as a freshman, getting a little playing time, but took over as the starting point guard midway through her sophomore year and hasn’t looked back.
“She’s averaged 15 points per game each season and just continues to get better.”
