NASHVILLE —Republican U.S. Sen. Lamar Alexander’s campaign will launch a spring fundraising offensive in which the Tennessean’s campaign intends to raise some $3 million for his 2014 reelection effort.
“As governor and as senator, Lamar Alexander has been standing up for Tennessee and we are ready to stand up for him,” said Alexander’s state finance chairman, Steve Smith said in a statement.
Smith predicted the money raised will bring the two-term senator and former governor’s campaign coffer’s to $4 million.
“The $3 million we expect to raise when added to our $1 million on hand will give the senator $4 million to start his campaign. We then will raise whatever we need to raise to make sure Lamar is able to communicate his message and continue to represent Tennesseans.”
So far, Alexander is unopposed but the lawmaker is taking no chances in an era where some of his Senate GOP colleagues have been bumped off in primaries.
The fundraising effort kicks off in April at a Chattanooga event hosted by U.S. Sen. Bob Corker, R-Tenn., at his home.
