Baby born in parking lot while Alabama hospital being evacuated

JASPER, Ala. - A baby was born in the parking lot of a Jasper hospital while patients were being evacuated from the medical facility because of a bomb threat.

Walker County Emergency Management Agency officials said Walker Baptist Medical Center was evacuated Friday because of a bomb threat.

Jasper police said they have a lead as they search for a possible suspect.

Hospital spokeswoman Renae McKinney said in the midst of the evacuation, a woman gave birth in the hospital parking lot. She said the mother and the baby were doing well.

"Nothing stops labor and delivery," she said.

Police said almost 80 people were evacuated from the hospital.
