Vehicles damaged by hole on interstate in Birmingham

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Motorists say several vehicles were damaged after they hit a large hole in Interstate in downtown Birmingham.

WBRC-TV reports that the vehicles were damaged Thursday night in the northbound center lane in the area of the Red Mountain Expressway interchange.

The Birmingham station reports that the hole is about four to five feet wide.

An Alabama Department of Transportation crew was beneath the bridge deck inspecting the hole shortly after 6 p.m. Thursday. It was not immediately known when repairs would be made.
