SunTrust names Vaughn city president

SunTrust Banks Inc. has named banking veteran Jim Vaughn as Chattanooga city president and commercial team leader.

"Jim's experience and knowledge of the market, proven leadership skills and deep ties within the Chattanooga philanthropic community make him a valuable addition to the East Tennessee team," said Rob McNeilly, Chairman and CEO for Middle and Eastern Tennessee of SunTrust Bank.

With more than 35 years in the banking industry, Vaughn has experience with expertise in retail, commercial, business banking and SBA lending.

Former city President Mike Butler retired at the end of January.

McMinn jobs fair set for July 18

The McMinn County Economic Development Authority will have a jobs fair July 18 to connect job applicants with employers in the area.

The jobs fair will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Tennessee College of Applied Science-Athens campus, 1635 Vo-Tech Drive.

Kathy Knight, the Authority's executive director, said there are jobs available and "it's just a matter of connecting those that are unemployed or underemployed with the companies that are hiring individuals with the job seeker's specific skill set."


Free exporting seminar offered

"Explore Exporting: The World is Waiting," a seminer to help small companies learn how to increase revenue through exporting, will be held in Chattanooga on July 18.

The free seminar is customized for small food and agriculture businesses and to give companies inside access to industry experts who will explore why and how companies can export.

The seminar will be from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Hamilton County Business Development Center, 100 Cherokee Blvd.

Questions to be addressed include why export, what assistance is available to offset the costs of entering foreign markets, which countries are buying products and who to call for help.
