Man charged in Alabama slaying arrested in Georgia

ANNISTON, Ala. - Police have arrested a man in Georgia in the killing of an Alabama National Guard sergeant last year.

The Anniston Star reports that 37-year-old Kenyata Demetris Burton is the third person charged in the killing of 24-year-old Dequirea Royal of Anniston.

Police say Burton was arrested last week in Columbus, Ga. He had been living in the southwest Georgia city.

Court records show Burton is in jail on a murder charge, and he didn't yet have a defense attorney on Friday.

Royal was found dead from a bullet wound inside her apartment in April 2012. She was in the Alabama Guard and planned to deploy to Afghanistan just a few months later.

Two men were previously charged with murder in the killing. Authorities haven't released a possible motive.
