Tour Volkswagen's Chattanooga paint shopProduction of the all-new Volkswagen Passat, specifically designed for the American market, is running full-speed inside the paint shop at the company's Chattanooga facility, with more than 600 cars being painted each day.
Volkswagen today reported that group sales globally rose 3.7 percent in June to 827,800 cars, the smallest gain since March, as deliveries in core European markets keep falling.
Six-month sales were up 5.5 percent to a record 4.7 million autos, the Germany-based automaker with a plant in Chattanooga said.
North American sales were up 12.3 percent in the first half.
European deliveries fell 3.5 percent to 1.87 million cars.
"We remain on course and are entering the second half of the year with confidence," VW group sales chief Christian Klingler said in a statement. "Nevertheless, the enormous challenges persist."
The premium brand Audi saw unit sales grow by 6.4 percent to 780,500 units, also with "significant growth" seen in China.
