Construction is under way on a $5 million Ken Defoor project on Lifestyle Way in East Brainerd
Project: Two-story retail and office building.
Owners: Ken and Byron DeFoor.
Location: Lifestyle Way, next to Mellow Mushroom, across from the Embassy Suites.
Size: 26,400 square feet.
Cost: $5 million.
Scope: The building will include a medical tenant on the top floor and as many as six retail shops on the first floor. Ken DeFoor hopes to attract both national and local stores.
Timeline: The building should be finished by October.
Future: This will be the first building of a small lifestyle center, DeFoor hopes. He said parking at the rear or sides of the building will encourage foot traffic and create a mixed-use friendly development.
History: The DeFoors also own the $40 million Embassy Suites across the street. The full-service, luxury hotel includes 203 suites and celebrated a grand opening June 28. It is connected to Ruth's Chris Steak House, which provides all food service for the hotel.
