Ryan finishes 4th at University Games

• KAZAN, Russia - Former McCallie School swimmer Sean Ryan of the University of Michigan finished fourth in the 800 freestyle finals at the World University Games. Ryan finished with a time of 7:55.67, less than two seconds behind bronze medalist Eric William Hedlin of Canada. Japan's Kohei Yamamoto won gold with a time of 7:49.96.

Golf

• Dalton's David Noll Jr. fell short of his third Georgia Amateur golf championship with a fourth-round 76 and 72-hole 290 at Pinetree Country Club in Kennesaw. Noll, whose second Georgia Am title came at Pinetree the last time the tournament was held there in 2003, took a one-stroke lead into Sunday after leading by three strokes through 36 holes, but fell into a tie for sixth. David Watts of Chatsworth surged to finish tied for third with a final-round 71 and a total score of 289, four shots behind winner Jimmy Beck of Columbus. Chad Wilson of Calhoun finished at 292 and tied for 11th.

General

• The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga announced last week the recent additions of four staff members for the athletic department, including Andrew Disney as the director of compliance. Disney has degrees from South Carolina and West Virginia and worked two years as an assistant director of compliance at Radford. The other UTC newcomers are Sarah Rabe as senior athletic trainer, working with the soccer team and as clinical support; Daniel Assey as assistant director of facilities and equipment; and Greg Goldin as assistant director of athletics performance, working primarily but not exclusively with men's basketball. Golden has worked at Virginia Commonwealth and more recently at Murray State. Rabe came from Memphis, Assey from Wofford.
