Senate Speaker Ron RamseyNASHVILLE, Tenn. - Tennessee Lt. Gov. Ron Ramsey, who backed a new law allowing handgun carry permit holders to keep weapons in their vehicles at work, says the law needs clarifying.
Referring to an opinion by Attorney General Robert Cooper, Ramsey said he regrets the waters being muddied before the statute took effect July 1. Cooper said the law does not change the ability of employers to ban weapons from their property.
Ramsey - a Blountville Republican - told the Knoxville News Sentinel he will probably support an expected push to change the law in the next session. The anticipated change would be that a permit holder could not be fired solely for having a weapon in a locked vehicle at work.
