The Friends of the Chattanooga Public Library book sale is underway at Eastgate Town Center, 5600 Brainerd Road.

The sale will feature old library hardbacks, paperbacks and periodicals as well as special and rare editions. Generally, more than 30,000 used books, movies and other media in more than 60 categories are included in the sales and sold at bargain prices.

Adult books are priced at $2 for hardbacks, $1 for paperbacks. Children/youth books are $1 for hardbacks, 50 cents for paperbacks.

The Friends organization holds two to four sales per year, each typically raising between $12,000 and $19,000, according to officials.

Sales are made possible by the countless volunteers who spend hours sorting, packing, setting up, restocking, selling and disassembling.

Profits are used to support the summer reading program, to buy media, to train staff and to promote library use.

Starting with this sale, local authors will be available to talk about and sign their works. A portion of their sales will be donated to FOL.

Sale hours are 9 a.m.-7 p.m. today-Saturday, July 18-20; noon-6 p.m. Sunday, July 21, which is half-price day; and 9 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday, July 22, which is bag day.
