Birmingham Barons blanks Chattanooga Lookouts, 4-0

HOOVER, Ala. - With help from major league star Paul Konerko, pitcher Spencer Arroyo and the Birmingham Barons beat the visiting Chattanooga Lookouts 4-0 in Southern League baseball Thursday night.

Chicago White Sox first baseman Konerko began a four-game rehabilitation stint with Birmingham and contributed immediately, singling to right field in the third inning to score Trayce Thompson, who had reached with an RBI triple to left.

Arroyo allowed four hits in seven innings for the Barons, who dropped the Lookouts to 11-14 in the second half. The Barons took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on Dan Black's home run to right.

Game two of the five-game series is tonight at 8:05 EDT. Duke von Schamann (2-1, 3.25) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Lookouts, with Stephan McCray (8-6, 3.83) scheduled for the Barons.
