Dogs on the Diamond

What: Pet owners took their pooches out to the ballgame during the Dogs on the Diamond fundraiser at AT&T Field when the Lookouts played the Jacksonville Suns. For a $5 pooch pass in addition to a game ticket, dogs and their owners could strut in the pregame Pooch Parade.

Hyundai Hope on Wheels aids Children's Hospital

What: Hyundai Hope on Wheels and area Hyundai dealers awarded a $75,000 Hyundai Scholar Grant to the Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders at Children's Hospital at Erlanger.

Benefits: The grant is to help develop Southeast Tennessee's first Pediatric Cancer Survivorship Clinic.

Dr. Jennifer Keates, a pediatric oncologist from Children's Hospital, was named one of 40 recipients of Hope On Wheels' 2013 Hyundai Scholar Grant. Hyundai Scholars pursue research and implement clinical programs to improve lives of children battling pediatric cancer.

Dr. Manoo Bhakta, Children's Hospital Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Division chief, says about 45 new cases of childhood cancer are diagnosed and treated at Children's Hospital each year. Also, the hospital continues to treat and follow patients' progress through their teenage and adult years.
