Jasper police have charged a 43-year-old local man with attempted murder after he reportedly shot his wife in the face with a .22-caliber rifle Monday night.

Jasper Police Chief Tim Graham said this afternoon that Allen Poole, 43, of Jasper, is charged with attempted first-degree murder and resisting arrest in an incident that happened just before 10 p.m. CDT. No bond has been set.

His wife, whose name is reportedly "Nyna" and is around 40 years old, is said to be responding to treatment at a hospital in Chattanooga. Graham said the bullet struck near her chin.

Poole could appear in court for a bond hearing on Wednesday, officials said.
