Organizers of the JulyFest Art and Music Festival in Mentone, Ala., are hoping for better weather on the last weekend of the month than they had on the first weekend.
The festival was rained out of its original dates, July 6-7, and has been rescheduled for this Saturday and Sunday, July 27-28.
Presented by the Mentone Area Arts Council, JulyFest features arts and crafts and free music by notable Alabama bands. The headline performance is by country artist Leah Seawright, whose band includes former Alabama drummer Mark Herndon.
The juried arts and crafts show, held in Mason Park, features the works of 50 artists and crafters. Their media include oil paintings, pastels, watercolors, photography, sculptures, wood art, rustic furniture, pottery, iron work, basketry, fiber and wearable art, and jewelry. The show opens at 9 a.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. Sunday (all times are Central).
Live entertainment starts at 11 a.m. Saturday and at 1 p.m. Sunday. At 5 p.m. Saturday, performances will move from Mason Park to the Mentone Inn, where concertgoers can dine on food provided by Old Tymer's Barbecue of Fort Payne, Ala. Cost is $10 per plate.
Saturday also features a pet parade at 10 a.m. (registration at 9:30 a.m.), as well as a silent auction and dog adoption to benefit the Humane Society and Animal Resources of DeKalb County.
Festivalgoers are encouraged to bring a lawn chair and picnic blankets for concert seating. Admission is free.
