William Benjamin Horton receives medical degree
William Benjamin Horton received a doctor of medicine degree from the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Miss., during spring commencement exercises.
Dr. Horton is the son of Dr. and Mrs. William Horton of Ringgold, Ga.
Angel Sims inducted in honor society
Angel Sims, a sophomore at Girls Preparatory School, has been selected for membership in the National Society of High School Scholars.
Angel, daughter of Noble and Azelia Sims, is a member of the GPS Singers, Candlelight Chorus, Key Club and rowing team. She is a member of New Covenant Fellowship Church.
Scholarship recipients
• Margaret Darden has received an Education Fund Scholarship from the National Electrical Manufacturers Representatives Association. She is an educational leadership/policy major at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The scholarship is awarded to children of NEMRA members and employees.
Darden is the daughter of Stanley D. Darden and a graduate of Notre Dame High School. At UWM, she is a member of Sigma Kappa Sorority, the Student Government, President's Pride and Student Social Worker Association.
• Three area graduates are among 205 students in the country to receive an academic scholarship from the Fred and Mary Koch Foundation. The scholarship is awarded to dependents of Koch employees.
The three are Rachel Danarae Price, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Shannon Ray Price, who will attend Covenant College; John Paul Cooke, son of Tim and Kristi Cooke, who will attend Lipscomb University; and Charles Hardeman, son of Mike and Kim Hardeman, who will attend Dalton State College.
Jarod Hobbs attends Governor's School
Jarod Hobbs, a sophomore at Central High School, was selected to attend the Governor's School for Information Technology Leadership at Tennessee Technological University.
The four-week summer program is designed to provide an opportunity for gifted high school students to develop their knowledge of information technology and business leadership. Participants earn six hours of college credit.
