TBI asked to investigate officer

CLEVELAND, Tenn. - The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has taken up the case involving a Cleveland police officer who was suspended this week.

TBI spokeswoman Kristin Helm said the agency will investigate allegations against Officer Ross Wooten.

Helm said in an email that "The victim filed a formal complaint with the Cleveland Police Department alleging that Wooten, who is an officer with the department, sexually assaulted her at her residence."

Helm said the TBI was asked to take the case by the 10th Judicial District Attorney General's Office on Thursday, and that results of the investigation will be turned over to his office.

The Times Free Press reported this week that Wooten was criminally charged in 2006 after two women reported he forced them to have sex. He was found not guilty on one count, and the other was dismissed. Similar allegations in 2005 by a third woman were reported to be unsubstantiated after an internal affairs investigation, according to newspaper archives.

Seized property auction set

LaFAYETTE, Ga. - The Walker County Sheriff's Office is planning an auction of property seized during drug raids.

Everything available was seized by the Lookout Mountain Judicial drug Task Force. Among other things, the auction will feature sports cars, guitars and property.

The auction will be held at 10 a.m. Aug. 6 at the Walker County Civic Center Ag Building.

Tennessee woman missing on trail

SANDY RIVER PLANTATION, Maine - Search crews on Friday failed to find a Tennessee woman who disappeared while hiking the Appalachian Trail in Maine, but they planned to resume their efforts during the weekend.

The Maine Warden Service said about 60 searchers spent Friday looking for Geraldine Anita Largay, 66, of Brentwood, Tenn., who was supposed to meet her husband Monday in Wyman Township in western Maine but never showed up.

Authorities also were seeking information about the identity of a female hiker who reported staying at a lean-to in Spaulding with Largay on Tuesday night. The woman called a nearby hotel but didn't leave her name.

Bank website hit by cyberattack

Birmingham, Ala. - Some customers were unable to access the Regions Bank website Friday after bank officials reported a cyberattack that made it difficult for some customers to use their check cards or check their accounts

AL.com reported access to the regions.com website and online banking at Regions were disrupted intermittently Friday by the cyberattack that bank officials called a "distributed denial of service attack."

Bank officials said not all check card customers were impacted by the attack.

Regions officials said in a statement Friday that some customers were able to access the Regions website, but could not log on to their individual accounts.
