The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga wrestling team is a finalist for two national awards with the Mocs' Facebook and Twitter marketing campaigns. The winners of the Best of Brand Awards will be announced next Saturday at the National Wrestling Coaches Association convention in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and UTC is up for the Gold Standard and the Masterful Mission awards with how it has promoted its "Chattanooga Strong" theme. The Gold Standard is the top award in the Best of Brand program created by Elite Level Sport Marketing CEO Coyte Cooper with the NWCA, according to a UTC release. It recognizes innovation in content and approach as well as the number of followers a team has and how it interacts with them. The other Gold Standard finalists are Drexel, Iowa State, Maryland, North Carolina State and Purdue. The Mocs' Facebook page has attracted more than 3,800 "likes," and the Twitter angle has more than 2,500 followers and 5,000 tweets, the release said. The Masterful Mission Award honors the program that "best branded itself" by social networking during the most recent season, and UTC was the 2012 winner with a wide range of content covering athletic and academic achievement and community service. Other 2013 finalists are Duke, Iowa State, Ithaca, MIssouri and Rutgers.

Plank, a 152-pounder who went 13-4 in the 2013-14 season for LFO, said he liked Temple because "it's a good Christian place, it's close to home and a lot of my friends go here." TTU assistant coach Corey Wright said, "We're excited to have David on the team. He seems like a good kid with character, and we're glad to be involved with his growth as a person and with his wrestling."
