A man sought by police after another man was choked during a fight, pushed into oncoming traffic and killed was arrested by authorities here.

Steven Lamount Williams is being held on a $200,000 bond and has been charged with criminal homicide in the death of 58-year-old Steven Albert Cran, according to Chattanooga police.

Williams was arrested after witnesses told police "the unknown suspect attacked the victim without any known immediate provocation," according to the arrest report.

Cran reportedly tried to walk away from the suspect repeatedly, witnesses told police.

"The suspect continued to assault the victim by means of choking and slapping him and eventually pushed him in the middle lane of traffic on Brainerd Road," the report states.

Cran was struck by oncoming traffic and pronounced dead at the scene.

Surveillance video from a nearby convenience store showed a man matching Williams' description. He was identified from the video, and witnesses picked Williams out of a photo lineup, according to the report.

Court records show Williams has previous convictions for domestic assault, theft, public intoxication, criminal trespassing and disorderly conduct.

He was arrested Thursday night in the 800 block of Cherry Street.

Williams' next court date is Tuesday before Hamilton County General Sessions Court Judge Clarence Shattuck.
