Man on Arlington Avenue shot in leg

A 22-year-old was shot in the leg early Sunday morning on Arlington Avenue, Chattanooga police said.

Frank Usher told investigators he was coming out of an apartment building shortly after 1 a.m. when someone fired at him and fled.

Police spokesman Nathan Hartwig said Usher's injuries were not life-threatening. He was taken to a local hospital.

The investigation is ongoing, Hartwig said.


Officer on leave after shooting

A Chattanooga police officer is on leave after firing back at a shooter Saturday night, police said.

Spokesman Nathan Hartwig said in a news release late Sunday that an unnamed suspect was firing rounds at people at the Southside Reunion near 2600 Long St.

He said the unnamed officer fired several rounds at the shooter but didn't hit him. The shooter fled and has not been located, Hartwig said.
