Georgia had 11 of its sports place among the top five in the Southeastern Conference in the annual Academic Progress Report scores released Tuesday.

The gymnastics, women's swimming and men's golf teams received perfect scores of 1,000, while the men's basketball team had a 990 to place second in the league behind Alabama. Georgia's football team ranked fourth in the SEC with a score of 968, and the men's basketball and baseball (966) teams were among the school's eight sports to post their highest scores since the implementation of the APR eight years ago.

"It takes great teamwork to be successful in anything, and this is a good example of teamwork among our student-athletes, academic counseling staff and our coaches," athletic director Greg McGarity said. "We congratulate our student-athletes on their achievement and are committed to continuing to strive for improvement every day."

Sports that slip below the established point cutoff of 930 are subject to NCAA penalties, including scholarship reductions. Georgia's lowest score was a 965 in men's tennis.
