Chattanooga's Diann Uustal won four individual events and helped win three relays in the Pan American Masters swimming championships Friday through Monday in Sarasota, Fla., and she was second in her fifth individual event in the women's 65-69 age group. She set an age-group world record in winning the 50-meter butterfly, but the name on the record didn't change. She broke her own standard from two years ago and was particularly happy because the old record was before a series of surgeries that knocked her out of competition for a while. She also won the 50, 100 and 200 backstrokes in the Pan Am Masters and was second in the 100 free after going out too fast in trying for another world record. The three relay victories with Georgia Masters teammates became United States records. Uustal also was happy that Georgia Masters teammate Judd Jones had three fifths and two sevenths in the highly competitive men's 55-59 category. Uustal, a registered nurse and doctor of education, is president of Educational Resources in Healthcare, Inc., and a busy speaker and author who also spends time teaching swim lessons.

Tennis

• Sewanee No. 1 singles player Bronte Goodhue from Chattanooga and Girls Preparatory School was No. 20 in the final 2013 NCAA Division III women's rankings announced Wednesday by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, and that made her an All-American. The Tigers as a team were 15th. They went 19-6 overall in winning the Southern Athletic Association and going to the national tournament, and Goodhue was the SAA player of the year while compiling a 4.0 grade point average as a double major in math and economics.

Running

• Two years after graduating from Lee University, former Walker Valley High School standout Caleb Morgan is Lee's full-time men's and women's cross country and track coach. He was made interim coach during the past school year while teaching at Arts & Sciences in Chattanooga, and the Cleveland school had five NAIA All-Americans in indoor and outdoor track. "I'm excited about the future of our running program," Lee athletic director Larry Carpenter said in a school release. "I appreciate the support shown by [president] Dr. [Paul] Conn and [vice president] Dr. [Walt] Mauldin in allowing our department to create a full-time coaching position. Coach Morgan has done an outstanding job this semester as the interim coach and will do a great job in taking our program to a new level." A four-year team captain, Morgan holds Flames records for the indoor mile and the outdoor 1500- and 800-meter runs and was the first Lee male to qualify for the NCAA indoor nationals. "I have a passion for cross country and track and really feel like this is where the Lord wants me to be," he said. "Coaching at the collegiate level is something I have wanted to do for a long time; achieving this goal at such a young age is a blessing. I am very thankful for the opportunity Dr. Conn and Coach Carpenter have given me to coach at my alma mater."

Basketball

• Georgia Northwestern Technical College basketball players Emily Cole and Alana Jones will be continuing their careers at Toccoa Falls College, a National Christian College Athletic Association Division II school in Toccoa, Ga. Cole, a shooting guard from Adairsville, averaged 10 points a game in NJCAA Region XVII games as a GNTC sophomore and scored 16 in the regular-season finale. She was a preseason first-team all-region player. Jones, from Rockmart, is going to Toccoa after one season with the Lady Bobcats, who went 15-10 and won the regular-season region title.
