Nolan earns rank of Eagle Scout

Frank C. Nolan of Cleveland, Tenn., has been awarded the rank of Eagle Scout. He is the 106th Scout to earn Eagle rank from Troop 10, the oldest troop in the Ocoee District.

Nolan is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jon Samples and Patrick Nolan of Syracuse, N.Y. He graduated from Bradley Central High School the same weekend he received his Eagle Scout award. He is a member of North Cleveland Church of God.

He has been in scouting for 10 years, attended summer camps at Skymont Scout Reservation in Altamont, Tenn., and Robert Woodruff Scout Reservation near Atlanta. He participated in two backpacking treks to Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico, and worked two summers on the waterfront staff at Skymont.

For the community service project required of every Eagle Scout, he removed an old set of bleachers from the campus of Black Fox Elementary School and constructed a shelter in the same location. He was assisted by family, friends, Troop 10 scouts and Judson Barber, the building and trades instructor at Bradley Central.

Wrigley donates to Girls Academy

Wrigley Manufacturing Co. recently made a $528 donation to Chattanooga Girls Leadership Academy and presented the school with a variety of gardening supplies for use in the school's new community garden.

The donation was collected by employees of Wrigley Co. and will be matched by the Wrigley Co. Foundation.

"Wrigley believes in the importance of healthy eating and giving people the knowledge to achieve a balanced diet and active lifestyle. We are proud to support the Chattanooga Girls Leadership Academy and their work to educate our community about healthy choices, while also caring for the planet," says Bruce VerBurg, Wrigley facilities director.

La-Z-Boy donates chairs to nonprofit

Chattanooga La-Z-Boy Furniture Galleries has donated four La-Z-Boy chairs to the Chattanooga Ronald McDonald House. The house is a home away from home for families of seriously ill, hospitalized children.

"The arrival of these new furniture pieces will further our mission to provide a warm and welcoming interim home for families in need," says Jane Kaylor, executive director of Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Chattanooga. "We are very grateful to have a community partner like La-Z-Boy that shares our dedication to comfort."

La-Z-Boy is the official furniture provider of Ronald McDonald House and Ronald McDonald Family Room programs nationwide. The La-Z-Boy contribution to Ronald McDonald House Charities includes annual furniture donations, cash contributions and volunteer efforts.

Scholarships awarded

• Dustin S. Davis has been awarded a $500 Modern Woodmen of America scholarship. He is one of 100 winners across the country chosen through the Fraternal Scholarship Program.

Davis, son of Vicki Davis of Rossville, plans to use the scholarship to attend Dalton State College.

• Cara Walker has been awarded a $12,000 four-year Fraternal College Scholarship from Modern Woodmen of America.

She is the daughter of David and Tracey Walker of Rossville, and plans to use the scholarship to attend the University of Alabama.

• Austin Norton, a student at Hamilton County Middle College High School, has been awarded a $2,000 scholarship by AXA Equitable, as part of its AXA Achievement program.

He is one of six recipients in Tennessee.
