ATLANTA - Authorities say a man has been hospitalized after being shot by police in Atlanta's Buckhead neighborhood.

Police say officers approached an unidentified man riding a bicycle who is suspected in a series of robberies in the area. Authorities say police tried stopping the man Wednesday afternoon and he resisted.

Atlanta Police Maj. Darryl Tolleson tells WBS-TV the man walked into a parking deck and pulled a weapon on a responding officer. Tolleson says the officer fired at the man and wounded him in his chest.

No officers were injured. Atlanta police spokesman John Chafee says the man is in stable condition at Grady Memorial Hospital.

Chafee says the officer who fired at the man has been placed on routine administrative leave while the shooting is under investigation.
