KNOXVILLE - A Tennessee Highway Patrol trooper was seriously injured in a hit-and-run crash when a commercial truck driver struck his parked cruiser along Interstate 75 in Campbell County on Sunday morning, authorities said.

Trooper Joe Lindsay was operating his warning lights on the shoulder of the roadway while a tow truck and crew remained on the scene of an earlier big-rig crash that occurred Saturday at mile marker 152, according to a news release from the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security.

A tractor-trailer struck Lindsay's cruiser and the tow truck without stopping.

The trooper suffered a fractured vertebrae in his neck, a fractured rib and injuries to his arm, the release states.
