Barbecue, fireworks in New Salem - June 29

The New Salem community on Lookout Mountain will have its annual Independence Day barbecue and fireworks display on Saturday, June 29, at the Community Center, 12477 Highway 136 E.

Meals will be served from noon to 2 p.m. On the menu are barbecue chicken, pork and beef plates with two sides. Beef or pork sandwiches with chips also will be available. Cost is $6.50 per plate, $3.50 for sandwiches. Sandwiches will be available that evening in the concession stand.

Entertainment will begin at 7 p.m., with fireworks scheduled for 10 p.m.

The Saturday before the Fourth of July has become the designated date for this event each year.
