Dayton's own Andy Morgan secured the 2013 Kellogg's Angler of the Year honor and a $100,000 bonus, and the other two homegrown pros also had fine days Friday in the Walmart FLW Tour regular-season finale out of the Dayton Boat Dock on Lake Chickamauga. While Casey Martin of New Hope, Ala., moved up from third place to first with a two-day limit of 10 bass totaling 49 pounds, 15 ounces, dock operator Michael Neal of Dayton surged from a tie for 28th to third at 40-4 and Walmart pro Wesley Strader of Spring City rose from 19th to sixth at 38-13. Larry Nixon of Arkansas is second at 42-6, and Luke Clausen of Spokane, Wash., and Texan Clark Wendlandt are between Neal and Strader. The top 20 continue today, trying to be among the 10 finalists Sunday, and Morgan is 14th at 34-11. He has finished in the top 10 of the points the last seven years, but this is his first time as champion. Jerry Reagan of Byrdstown, Tenn., leads the 20 co-angler semifinalists at 30-1, 17 ounces more than second-place Rick Harkness of West Virginia. Richard Peek of Centre, Ala., finished 31st, and that was enough for him to be the Co-Angler of the Year and get a Ranger Z518 boat with a 200-horsepower Evinrude or Mercury outboard motor and automatic entry into the 2014 Forrest Wood Cup. NBCSN will show the tournament on Aug. 4 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

• Corey Bradley from McDonald, Tenn., ascended to third place Friday as one of the 10 boater finalists on Nickajack Lake in the Walmart BFL All-American out of Ross's Landing. Bradley's two-today total is 35-2, with Shawn Gordon of Russellville, Ark., fourth at 33-8. Chris Wilkinson of Farmersburg, Ind., stayed in first place at 39-9 with Kerry Milner of Bono, Ark., second at 37-4. The top prize for the tournament is $120,000, plus a chance to compete in the Forrest Wood Cup in August on the Red River. Nick Angiulo of Hainesport, N.J., and Craig Hulsey of Park Hills, Mo., are a close one-two at 25-13 and 25-10 in the co-angler competition for a $60,000 top prize. The finalists' bags today will be weighed at the Dayton Walmart store that also will host the FLW Tour weigh-ins and a noon-4 p.m. expo for fans. NBCSN will show tournament highlights from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 18.

Football

• The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga now has eight players on College Football Performance Awards watch lists for NCAA FBC positions this fall. The latest Moc cited by as a top-32 returner nationwide is punter Nick Pollard, who has been UTC's No. 1 place-kicker the last two seasons and added punting duties last year with a rugby style. He averaged in the top 25 of the FBC with his 41.5 yards per punt, and he was second in the Southern Conference with 23 kicks downed inside the opponents' 20-yard line.

Golf

• Former Chattanooga-area residents Josh Nelms and Nick Blakely will face each other in the round of 16 in the Tennessee Match Play Championship today at the Nashville Golf & Athletic Club in Brentwood, and Chattanooga's Tom Schreiner, UTC golfer Davis Bunn of Knoxville and McMinnville's Brett Patterson also survived stroke-play qualifying. Knoxvillians Elliott Wickenden and Brandon Rodgers finished first and second at 135 and 137 for the 36 holes Thursday and Friday. Schreiner (146) faces Rodgers, while Bunn (143) plays Nashville's Ryan Terry (145) and Patterson (143) takes on Brentwood's Brendon Caballero (146). Nelms (144) now lives in Spring Hill; Blakely (145) lives in Nashville. Mike Poe of Athens tied longtime state amateur star Danny Green of Jackson for second in Senior Match Play qualifying at 146, two shots behind Knoxville's Steve Golliher, and faces Loudon's Jim Brown (149) in a quarterfinal.

• Sarah Harris of Hermitage, who will be a sophomore golfer at Kentucky this year, won the 2013 Tennessee Women's Amateur Championship on Friday at the Vanderbilt Legends Club at Franklin, one day after defeating UTC senior-to-be and former GPS and Signal Mountain standout Jordan Britt in the semifinals. Harris beat former Vanderbilt golfer Courtney Wood Chandler of Franklin 3 and 2 for the title. Anna Cunningham of Cookeville beat Siarra Stout of Franklin 3 and 1 for the first-flight title, but Franklin did have the second-flight winner in 11-year-old Angelina Chan, who won 3 and 1 over Karin Rader-Carson from Kingston Springs.

Softball

• Tennessee co-head softball coaches Ralph and Karen Weekly and their assistants, including Chattanooga native Marty McDaniel, have been voted the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Southeast Region Coaching Staff of the Year for the second year in a row and the fifth time since 2005. Their Lady Vols recently finished second in the Women's College World Series. The Weeklys are former UTC coaches who owned a home in the Soddy-Daisy area until about a year ago, and their volunteer assistant is Ralph's son Marc Weekly, a former member of the UTC football staff.
