Alabama man charged in death of girlfriend

CHEROKEE, Ala. - Colbert County authorities say a man has been charged with murder in the death of his girlfriend.

The TimesDaily reported that Homajean "Lee" Grisham III has been charged with murder in the slaying of 32-year-old Jessica Nicole Broadfoot of Florence. Grisham, who turned 35 Saturday, was being held on $1.5 million bond. It wasn't immediately clear whether he had a lawyer.

Colbert County Sheriff Ronnie May says Broadfoot was beaten and stabbed to death. Her body was found in a pasture in Cherokee owned by Grisham's parents.

Grisham was taken into custody during a traffic stop in Muscle Shoals Friday morning. May says there was blood in the pickup and weeds were stuck to the bottom of it. May says Grisham told officers where they could find Broadfoot's body.
