The University of Tennessee board of trustees today appointed Steve Angle as the new chancellor at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.

Angle, a senior vice president at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio, will officially start the job here on July 1.

But already he has put together a list of priories that he thinks will improve the campus. Angle said the university needs to increase its graduation rates and strengthen its relationship with the community.

UTC also needs to fill a couple of key positions: athletic director and provost.

"Thank you so much for this opportunity and I look forward to working with all of you," Angle told the board after they voted to hire him around 2 p.m.

Angle will make $318,000 per year. His predecessor, Roger Brown, brought home $225,495 annually, but he also lived in a house owned by the University of Chattanooga Foundation, something Angle will not do.
