Alabama woman arrested on gambling device charges

BOAZ, Ala. — A north Alabama woman has been arrested on charges of possessing electronic gambling devices.

Etowah County Sheriff’s spokeswoman Natalie Barton says 33-year-old Cecila Ann Slaten was arrested Wednesday and police seized two electronic gambling machines from a store Slaten where Slaten worked as a clerk.

Barton says an undercover officer went into the store, played a gambling machine and was given credits that could be used to buy items from the store. Barton says the remaining, unused credits were returned in cash.

Slaten was taken to the Etowah County Detention Center and is free on a $1,000 property bond. It’s unclear if she has a lawyer. Barton says the owner of the store has not been charged.

Boaz is about 20 miles north of Gadsden.
